Planet Walk

Have you ever tried to imagine how large our solar system is? Distances between the planets and our sun are almost too great to comprehend.

If we could shrink the solar system down to where a million miles is only one foot long, in the 20 minutes it would take you to walk from the sun to Pluto, you would travel nearly 4 billion miles!  This is what we have done at the Montour Preserve’s Planet Walk.

Imagine every stride you take carries you more than two million miles! As you walk along, you are traveling at ten times the speed of light. And when you come to the end of the Planet Walk, to reach the nearest star to our Sun, you would have to walk the distance to Hawaii!  Taking the Montour Preserve’s Planet Walk gives you a true appreciation of the vastness of space.

Trail Distance: 0.8 miles (1.6 miles out and back)

Trail Surface: gravel and mowed grass

Trail Elevations: 630ft maximum / 595ft minimum (mostly flat)
